Heirloom Tomato and Feta Sandwich

As I lay last week in the dentist chair, wincing from not only the sound of the driller thingy, but from the all-too-chipper hygienist who was going into great detail of her glory days playing high school basketball, I wondered why anyone actually goes to the dentist anyways. 

It has only got to be for the goodie bags. 

So I start to willingly zone...Eyes proceed to close now and take you off to a faw, faw away land....pronto. 

In the distance, above the masked chatter and he whirling, I hear Ms. Hoda Hoda talking about to tomatoes, all different kinds and what to make with them. I really want to open my eyes, but then the chatter might increase and so will the drilly thing, bleh. Not that I don't dig a bubbly hygienist, but I'm not a morning person and it's hard to be super involved with a hand, drill, cleaner, water and vacuum in ones mouth.

Hoda goes on talking with Adam Rapoport about tomatoes and cheese, I then managed to squint one eye open because of what I have been looking for. Several years back, on a trip to Florida, we had sliced tomatoes with a grilled piece of cheese for an appetizer and it was deeeelish.

 

This wasn't the exact same as what I was looking for, but it sure was close and looked oh so good.

Heirloom Tomato and Feta Sandwich

Ingredients: 

Pullman Toast 

Two Large Tomatoes 

Salt 

Freshly Ground Pepper 

Block of Feta 

Block of Mozzarella 

Fresh Oregano 

Olive Oil 

1. Lightly toast thick slices of white bread, a Pullman loaf is ideal (I couldn't find this so I just found a large, white loaf) 

2. Drizzle with Olive Oil 

3. Add tomato slices, salt, freshly ground pepper, slabs of feta (I crumbled it), fresh oregano and more oil.

 

I made the feta for the hubs and myself, then used the mozzarella for the offspring, they didn't like the 'stinky' cheese.

   

Wednesday's Wear

You know when you are shirt skimming?
                                Oh you know...doing a quick scan through of all the shirts on the rack while mumbling to yourself? 

Come on, you know you do it... 

And you find that one shirt and think 'This could be really cute. It's like what I see all those cute girls wear and think it's awesome and I could never pull it off.' 

And you build up the courage to go and try it on, all while telling yourself
'yeah, I could totally do this, step out of my little
tank top box and not care what anyone says.' 

Oh yeah, now you know what I mean. 

I snatch it up, half way digging it, half way looking like I work at Pets Mart, but I said 'Self, you can totally do this...Pets Mart people would not wear this,
they wear red after all.'

 

So let me tell you about the first time (and only time) I have worn it.

It was about two months ago, we were test driving a new car. Went out for a bite to eat and left the offspring to fend for themselves.

Going through pros and cons of the newest ride, 

in mid-sentence, the hubs looks at me and says

'Is...(long pause)...Are those bows on your shirt?'

'uhh, umm no.'

'Oh.'

'(another pause)'

'What is it?'

'dogs'

'Dogs?'

'yes, dogzzz (emphasizing the zzz's).'

'Oh, uh, ok.'

'(awkward pause)'

'What kind of dogs?'

'what?'

'I said what kind of dogs?'

'umm, scotties I think?'

'Did they have the option for a mix breed? like our dog?'

 

Then the stare down happened, the one where you stop chewing your food and just look at each other for what seems like forever, followed by a laugh so hard we cried, literally.

The scottie/mixed breed dog mom shirt has been laying across THIS CHAIR ever since. Couldn't even hang it up, I wanted to wear it again and finally decided to when I paired it with these pants.

Even as I type this post, the 10 year old ask me what is on my shirt and the hubs told him I am supporting our mix breed dog, sigh....

What are the odds that when it is 107 outside, I'm wearing pants but when it is 82,
I put on shorts and a sleeveless shirt
because I took the advice of a poncharita (see below) 

Who says a five year doesn't know anything, has never raised a poncharita....

 

 

 Poncharita (n.)...one who constantly ask all day for a 'dang kasdilla' (thank you Napoleon Dynamite) while wearing this cowgirl hat 24 hours a day..  

 'I'll be watchin you...'

Gearing up for school to start back, finishing up camps, attempting to reorganize and clean out and this particular day hanging shelves. So naturally I opt for a skirt. Makes sense for one to use a drill while sporting one.

It's still crazy hot, and honestly wanted something on for staying around the house.

side note: we have a gang of five little blonde headed girls, one burnette and a handful of boys that roam in and out of the houses in our hood...makes it a tad hard to stay in your jamas...

The shortest offspring asked me if my necklace was made out of pillows.

My reply was a no.

Her next question was if they were orange fluffy marshmellows, and if she could eat one.

I am afraid it might disappear in the near furture....
